LCD or Plasma HDTV?
With the era of digital technology upon us taking us into the future in leaps and bounds it was only a matter of time before the humble television was due for a massive re-modification. Existing CRT models are a sign of the past; their replacements are newer, slimmer, lighter TV’s with a huge improvement in picture and sound quality. Welcome to the era of the BIG screen TV! These widescreen flat-panel televisions are split into two main categories; Plasma and LCD, based on the respective technologies they use. They are thin and light enough to be wall mounted, whilst offering exceptional resolutions and detail to provide the ultimate viewing experience.
Its not just big-screen televisions either, flat panels are being used in televisions from 15” upwards. In addition to the exceptional picture and sound quality, flat screen televisions have the added benefit of being lighter and smaller than their CRT predecessors. This means they are a lot more flexible in regards to their positioning, they can even be mounted onto a wall. Many larger models are capable of displaying High Definition content (see 'What is HDTV') and some include a built in digital Freeview tuner (See Digital TV).
So which is the better format? Generally it comes down to customer preferences, and as each year passes the difference as well as the price gap between the two technologies decrease. Click on the links below for more information on Plasma and LCD technology.
