Want to watch your favourite programs in HD ?
So you’ve been out and brought yourself an HDTV, set it all up and are ready to watch. The analogue terrestrial picture looks fantastic but you want more; the answer to your needs is digital. The digital switchover is upon us and by 2012 the old analogue system will be obsolete and switched off. Digital terrestrial TV provides a greatly improved picture and sound quality than the old analogue signal. In order to receive this digital signal you must either have a TV with a built in Digital Tuner, have a separate set top boxes or have a subscription to cable or satellite. Not only will receive many more channels but you will also be able to view some of your favourite shows in HD.
The BBC have started showing some of its programmes in High Definition, over the Christmas period numerous of our favourite shows were shown in HD. They have also launched BBC HD, a free channel that allows cable and satellite viewers a glimpse of their favourite shows in HD. Sky launched its HD service in May 2006 and allows subscribers to watch programmes in High Definition via their HD Set Top Box. To get up and running with SKY HD you first have to purchase a Sky HD Box, this will set you back a few hundred pounds. The boxes themselves come in a stylish black and silver finish and are made by Thomson. They come with a wide array of connection ports and can receive updates direct from Sky via a phone line. The Sky HD box comes with Sky + built in and a 160GB of hard disk space for recording.
