
Playstation 3 - The Next Generation of Gaming?
Sony’s Playstation 3 has been in the production pipe line for a long time, successful releases in the US and Japan led to an announcement that the PS3 will be released at the end of March 2007. The PS3 promises to revolutionise the way games are played, it is the only console available that can play games in true 1080p resolutions. However don’t be put off if your TV won’t accept such a high resolution, because the PS3 will play on TV’s from 480i upwards. If current screen shots are anything to go by you will honestly mistake the images for real photos such is the quality of graphics. The PS3 is available in 2 packages, 20GB and 60GB option, both of which boast HDMI connectivity for connection to your big screen HDTV. Another major attribute is the inclusion of a Blu-Ray disc player into the console. Blu-Ray is the new optical disc format capable of holding up to 50GB of data, promising greater interactivity and true High Def. playback of your favourite films.

Sony has continued with the standard Dual shock size and shape of the controller but has made some improvements to the old design. The “Sixaxis” controller as it is known features more trigger like L2 and R2 buttons for more precise control, enhanced analogue controls with better response and sensitivity and the use of break through motion sensing technology to enable 6-axis of high-precision control. The Ps3 has the ability to connect up to 7 controllers at a time via its Bluetooth wireless connection.
In response to Microsoft’s X Box live for the X Box 360, Sony have promised the Playstation network, which will be free to gamers and always connected. Allowing gamers to play and chat to each other, share music and pictures and download a back catalogue of games from the old PS1 and 2. Gamers will also be pleased to here that the PS3 is up-linkable with the PSP so that both can be used simultaneously (I.e. use of the PSP as a real-time rear view mirror in driving games. Sony’s PS3 promises to be the most advanced console of its generation offering true high definition gaming and viewing to all those who posses it.
