As time advance so does technology, you can’t stop the progression and evolution as we search for that ever elusive perfect picture. It began with the VCR, analogue pictures and tedious searches as you fast-forward then rewind to find exactly where you were. Then came the DVD providing us with quality pictures, searchable content and limited interactivity.As screen sizes increase the limitations of Standard definition video become more apparent, beyond 32" screen sizes an SD picture begins to deteriorate. With these large screens becoming more affordable, demand for higher quality pictures increased. As we enter the era of High Definition we await the next chapter in the story, providing High Definition 1080p playback, greater storage capacity and the promise of highly sophisticated interactivity. The introduction of digital connections means that DVD players no longer have to convert a digital signal into analogue in order for it to be transfered to a TV. Some of us may remember the war that was the Beta Max against VHS; well a similar war threatens to erupt again as Blu-Ray take on HD DVD. Each system is backed by some of the biggest names that the entertainment industry has to offer.
